Festival Lookbook

With Coachella just around the corner, and the recent announcement of many other summer lineups, I was inspired to put together a little festival inspired lookbook for y’all. In my opinion, festival fashion is the next best thing to fall fashion, and I think many of you would agree. It requires minimal makeup, minimal clothing, and an all around “I woke up like dis” look. So without further a due here are some looks I have created for the upcoming festival season, enjoy!  Image

February Favourites

Hello internet people!

I have to apologize for my lack of posts over the past month. I’d like to blame my work load or busy schedule but i’d be lying about both. The truth is that I’ve been going through a serious case of the february blues and and simply could not conjure enough energy to do much more than eat and sleep. All my canadians out there, i’m sure you can relate.

But it has been warming up slightly and I have the week off school, so I feel like I can finally inspire myself catch up in the blogsphere. So today I bring you some of my favourites during the month of February!

1. BEANIES.
Image

February was the kind of cold that made you instantly start cursing and make you consider homicide the moment you stepped out the front door. Beanies came in handy. I’ve acquired quite the collection of beanies over the course of this winter season and above are just a few of my favourites. Going from left to right, these were purchased at NewLook, Zumiez, Urban Outfitters, and Aritzia (last one gifted from my gal pal Erica). So ya beanies, practical and cute how bout that.

2. IS EVERYONE HANGING OUT WITH ME? – MINDY KALING
Image

Mindy Kaling is one funny lady. Technically I read this one back in September but re-read it this month because I needed a pick-me-up from my February slump. This book will have your gut hurting from laughing so hard. I highly suggest you refrain from reading this book in public because you will get strange looks from LOL’ing to yourself. Its an easy read that you will finish in 3 days tops, and will have you questioning why you didn’t read it sooner, seriously BUY IT NOW.

3. ANASTASIA BROW DUO POWDER
Image

I’m accustomed to using Sephora’s brow pencil for filling my brows in, but felt like a change and wanted to switch things up by using a powder. I wasn’t really sure what I was looking for, so I asked one of the Sephora girls what she recommended and she pointed me to this. She tried it out on me at the beauty counter, and I loved the way it looked. The two tones allow you to blend to get the perfect match, and can help you achieve a sort of ombre effect on your brows. I find the powder looks much more natural than the pencil and surprisingly stays on longer too. This was $30.00 and I use it with an angled eyeliner brush.

4. NOAH GUNDERSON

I stumbled across this one night on youtube during a music rampage and have been OBSESSED. His voice is just beautiful and he writes all his own music which is really impressive considering his young age and the depth of his lyrics. So ya take a listen, I hope you enjoy it as much as I have!

That wraps up my favourites for this month! I hope it warms up wherever you are, and you have things to look forward to, and you have a fantastic weekend!

Ps. I have a massive order of clothes coming in within the next week so expect a spring lookbook soon!

New Work Space

ImageAhhhhhh. The feeling of a fresh start. I’m so in love with my new desk space that I voluntarily started my homework just as an excuse to use it. I’m so happy with the result, as you could imagine it feels good having a pretty work space having to put up with such an eye sore for so long. A nice work area may even motivate me to keep it clean (ha.)ImageAlmost everything photographed was purchased from Ikea. I managed to re-do the entire space for under $300 which is a great deal, considering everything that was bought and the impact is has made on my bedroom. The shelves were on for half off ($12 each) and I found the transparent chrome plated chair in the last chance section for $58 marked down from $89. Bargain Queen.ImageImageImageI cannot stress how much more put together I feel after having a newly organized space. Little improvements here and there make you feel accomplished and do so much in making your home or room feel fresh and new! If you guys have any questions on any of the items I bought, let me know and i’ll give you specific product names, links, and all that good stuff. Let me know what you think!

Desk Area Reno

ImageI’ve decided to re-do the desk area in my room. I’ve had my desk for probably 17 years and it’s bulky, ugly, and meant to be left in the 90’s.

I’m heading to Ikea today with my dad to get all the things needed to update the work area in my room, I’m super excited. I took to Pinterest for some inspiration and found this photo which i absolutely love. It’s girly, clean, and fresh, exactly the look that i’m going for. I’m hoping I can find most of these things today and (fingers crossed!) in a budget friendly fashion.

I will definitely be doing a blogpost on the finished product!

January Favourites

Image

I can’t believe January is coming to an end already. I’m glad to be honest, because that means that i’m that much closer to finishing school and saying GOOD-BYE to winter. Can I get a hallelujah? HALLELUJAH.

Considering this is my first favourites post, I wanted to create an ongoing structure or theme for future months to come. For each favourites post I will be sharing my favourite music, book, clothing item, and beauty product that i enjoyed during each particular month. So, without further a due, these are my favourites for the month of January!

Music Lorde-Pure Heroine. I bought this album with some iTunes money I received for Christmas, and I have been absolutely obsessed. It’s such honestly written music, something I find really difficult to find these days. My favourite songs on the album have to be Bravado, World Alone, Buzzcut Season, 400 Lux, Glory and Gore……. They’re really all fantastic. Lorde, you are queen.

Book Alexa Chung- It. I have been meaning to buy this book for months, and finally got my hands on it a few weeks ago. If you are really into fashion and lifestyle related things, BUY THIS. It was such a fast and lovely read, It only took me about 40 minutes to go from cover to cover. Alexa Chung has flawless taste, and she really gives insight on how to develop and find your style through the inspiration found in everyday things. And lesbehonest, she’s totally hot.

Clothing Item Plaid, Tartan, Checks, etc. That really says it all. It’s such a go to item for me that adds a cool edge to any outfit. So effortless and simple.

Beauty Product Oxblood Nailpolish. My nails seem to have been permanently painted a form of this hue for months now. It’s just the perfect colour for autumn and winter and really works with the paleness of winter hands. Above i’m wearing Bordeaux by Essie my #1 fav.

What have been some of your favs this month?

The Envelope Skort

Image
So, a while back I was in the market for one of these envelope skirts heavily seen on tumblr, pinterest, lookbook, polyvore…. you get the point, they’ve been everywhere. Every time I walked in to Zara, however, they were nowhere to be found. So I took my search to the internet and found this baby on Ebay ho0-raah. As for the quality, Well….. It’s see through, too big, and the stitching was falling apart. NTS: THE INTERNET CANNOT BE TRUSTED. Lesson Learned.

BUT, this didn’t stop me from playing around with it and trying different ways of styling the infamous envelope skirt. I kept it pretty simple in the picture above, pairing it with a plain black tank and tying a plaid shirt around my waist. A quilted bomber jacket would be a cool addition to this look (and might be more weather appropriate).

So until I can actually get my hands on one of these skirts from Zara, i’m forced to wear this one in my room and pretend it’s the real deal. I’d love to know how you guys have styled these envelope skirts!

Splurge or Save: Gold Watches

Image

I think a statement watch is a necessity in every womans jewellery collection. It’s a minimal piece that can go great lengths in defining your style. But $250 on a minimal piece???? Daaaaaaamn.

I’ve been eyeing this Michael Kors Gold Choromographic watch for a few months now, and was considering whether it was worth the spending 3 bills on. I was very pleased when I came across this Asos brand watch a few weeks ago on their website. I mean, at first glance, it could definitely pass for Michael. While It’s made from a cheap alloy material and has fake dials….. I figured for $45.00 I get essentially the exact same look.  Hooray for bargains!

But what do you think? Is it worth it to spend a lot on a item that may last longer? Or better to go with the bargain?

New York, New York

Image

So, I think i finally figured out a good set up for taking pictures (despite the power outlet, please ignore lol).

I’m heading out to the mall today in search of the perfect denim shirt. I don’t know why, but these are one of the most difficult items to shop for! Every one I find is either too fitted or too baggy. I’m hoping today I can find a nice one at H&M without breaking the bank and maybe i’ll treat myself to a Mac lipstick (my eye is on cyber or rebel). I’ll share my purchases with y’all when i’m home!

Black on black on black

Image

This past weekend I took a trip downtown to visit Topshop because I was in desperate need of new jeans. Around this time last  year I bought a pair of black Joni jeans and wore them so often they literally began falling apart. If you’re a fan of the American Apparel Easy Jeans than you should definitely give the Joni jeans a go because they’re very similar and a bit cheaper.

Whilst in the lineup for the change room,  this cropped fuzzy sweater caught my eye. I snatched it on a whim, and figured i’d just see how it looked on. I don’t always make the best of choices. I fell in love and could not leave the store without it. So I left Topshop $200 broker, but with this adorable outfit. Damn you Topshop.

I broke up the black in this outfit with a chunky gold chain necklace and white and black cambridge style bag. I added a felt floppy hat which made the look a bit more feminine.
